Men's Ministry in the PCA

Could it be that the Spirit of God is beginning to fan into flame an awakening among men in the PCA?

At the 35th General Assembly in Memphis there were several seminars, with standing room only, for discipling men in the local church. It was a blessing to see some of the endeavors of leaders seeking to minister to men through discipleship ministries. CE&P is encouraging such leaders to network together, creating momentum across the grassroots of the PCA.

There are several things you need to be aware of regarding men’s ministry. The first is you should go to the CE&P website and click on “Men’s Ministry” and read the most recent e-letter “Get in the Game.” There you will find some helpful thoughts about men’s ministry, particularly from three of the PCA’s most influential men’s leaders. They (Pat Morley, David Delk, and Brett Clemmer) have written the book No Man Left Behind. TE Gary Yagel is one of the speaking faculty for Man In The Mirror, who is available to present the seminar on No Man Left Behind based on the book. Gary is also a regional men’s ministry specialist for CE&P.

Secondly, you should be aware of a men’s event scheduled for March 28-29, 2008, at the Atlanta Marriott Century Center. It is called “The Gospel Man Conference, How Grace Changes Men.” RE Harvey Kirkpatrick of Faith Presbyterian Church in Watkinsville, GA, is a man of faith who was led to organize this conference. Dr. Bryan Chapell, president of Covenant Theological Seminary, will be the plenary speaker. There will also be two seminar tracts on Friday and Saturday. You should visit the website www.thegospelman.com for more details and how to register.

A third newly discovered resource available to men is the ministry of “Coach” Tommy Boland, Director of Men’s Ministry & Sports Ministry at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church. Tommy offers both seminars and Bible studies for men. CE&P is looking forward to networking with them to reach men throughout the PCA.

Pat Morley raises the questions “Can you think of any way the WORLD can be made right unless the CHURCH is made right? Can you think of any way the CHURCH can be made right unless FAMILIES are made right? Can you think of any way FAMILIES can be made right unless MARRIAGES are made right? Can you think of any way MARRIAGES can be made right unless MEN are made right? Can you think of anything that has more potential to change the world than reaching men?” Here are a few small flames that may begin to show that the PCA is getting it right with men’s ministry.
