Christian Education and Publications, the PCA committee whose
charge is to provide training and resources for church
leadership, recently hosted a conference for the Directors of
Women‘s Ministries of local PCA churches.
Aware
of the growing number and significant leadership role of these
directors, CE&P provides a defined fellowship aimed at equipping
them for ministries that unite with an overall Christian education
and discipleship focus.
In
October, Directors of Women’s Ministries from thirteen states with
diverse ministry contexts and challenges gathered in Atlanta.
Jane
Patete, CE&P’s coordinator of WIC ministries was ably assisted in
planning the conference by a task force of women: Donna Dobbs,
Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian, Jackson,
Mississippi; Joann White, Director of Women at Coral Ridge
Presbyterian, Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and former CE&P
Consultant, Barbara Thompson.
The focus was:
• Equipping for Word-centered curricula selection, design and
focus
• Beneficial peer relationships
• Spiritual refreshment
• Denominational context
• Informed discussions on key ministry issues
Dr.
Dan Doriani, Adjunct Professor of New Testament at Covenant
Theological Seminary and pastor of Central Presbyterian Church in
St. Louis, Missouri, was the pastor/teacher for the conference.
Drawing from his outstanding book, Getting the Message: A Plan
for Interpreting and Applying the Bible, Doriani provided
theological and Christ centered approaches to ministry and Bible
study. Plans are already in the works for the 2008 DOWM annual
conference.
