or the past
several years, Christian Education and Publications and Mission to
North America have partnered to produce the 50 Days of Prayer, a
devotional and guide in preparation for the upcoming General
Assembly meetings held in June of each year. Pastor Michael Ross
of Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, North Carolina, has been
the author of six of these volumes. Each book contains a daily
devotional and suggested prayer items for the PCA at the General
Assembly level. More than 10,000 have been sold in previous years.
This year’s guide is now being used by over a
thousand members. The 2008 volume, entitled Men, Message, and
Ministry, takes you through the Pastoral Epistles. Ross states
that intent of the book is “to call our people to prayer for the
PCA pastors, elders, and deacons as they face the challenges of
ministry to a new generation of Americans.”
“This year’s book is in honor of the founding
fathers of the PCA—the ones who taught the present generation of
men about the gospel message and ministry,” said Ross. Seven of
the 30 men who started the PCA have been chosen to write, offer
advice, and exhortation to the rising generation of church
leadership. They include Frank Barker, Jim Baird, Paul Settle,
Morton Smith, Terry Gyger, John Kyle, Kennedy Smartt, and Charles
Dunahoo.
