Let's Do Role Play
The
first
obstacle
may
be
youthe
teacher.
Youve
never
done
this
before
so
to
begin,
you
must
be
willing
to
try.
We
need
to
vary
our
methodology,
but
often
what
we
do
that
is
different
does
not
work.
However,
one
success
is
worth
all
the
failures.
I
have
done
role
plays
with
small
children
as
well
as
adults.
People
at
every
age
have
inhibitions.
Nobody
wants
to
look
foolish.
So
it
may
take
a
bit
of
cajoling
to
get
some
volunteers.
It
may
help
if
you
do
several
role
plays
the
same
day
utilizing
a
large
group
of
class
members.
We
often
feel
a
bit
more
secure
if
we
know
we
are
not
alone.
Role
playing
a
Bible
story
is
relatively
easy.
The
plot
and
the
characters
are
already
in
place.
But
you
can
also
do
a
life
situation.
For
instance,
family
settings
illustrating
a
lack
of
listening,
or
a
wrong
use
of
authority
could
make
for
powerful
role
plays.
I
played
Joseph
being
sold
into
slavery
with
a
group
of
small
children.
They
got
rough
with
Joseph
but
it
made
the
point.
More
recently,
a
group
in
a
seminar
did
a
role
play
on
the
problem
of
suffering.
A
lady
played
a
high
school
girl
committed
to
the
Lord
who
was
badly
hurt
in
an
accident.
She
was
visited
by
friends
who
didnt
know
what
to
say
and
had
trouble
understanding
why
God
would
allow
such
a
thing.
I
asked
each
person
how
they
felt
playing
their
roles.
The
lady
who
portrayed
the
girl
hurt
in
the
accident
said
she
had
a
daughter
in
a
similar
situation.
Role
playing
can
get
us
out
of
ourselves.
Always
ask
how
people
felt
playing
the
role
and
ask
them
to
consider
how
what
they
learned
could
impact
their
world.
Remember
the
point
of
it
allrestoration
of
our
relationships
with
God
and
others. Director of Training, CE/P
