One Model of a Titus 2 Ministry

The WIC Resource Letter (3rd quarter, 2001) contained an article on "Titus 2 Ministry in the Local Church." Below is one model of what such a ministry could look like. For more information on Titus 2 Ministry, call Jane Patete at 678-825-1146, or click here to send an email.

If you are a PresWIC president, director of Women's Ministry, local WIC president, or the wife of a teaching elder and do not currently receive the WIC Resource Letter, click here to add your name to the mailing list.

Model
This is just an example. Be creative and develop
a ministry appropriate for your church.

Purpose:
To encourage and equip women for Titus 2 relationships.

Strategy:
The women's ministry leadership team will appoint a Titus 2 committee. The coordinator of the committee will serve on the women’s leadership team.

Curriculum:
Biblical Foundations for Womanhood

Target Audience:
Women who are not able to attend regular women’s ministry Bible studies.
*

Long-term vision:
When there are enough trained spiritual mothers, the program will be expanded to enfold teen girls. Eventually assign a spiritual mother to every new female member of the church. This will be a six-month assignment for the purpose of helping women become assimilated into church life.

*
Women who attend regular women’s ministry Bible studies will be encouraged to use that opportunity to engage in informal Titus 2 relationships.

Plan:

Year One

  • September to May, interested women will study all of the Biblical Foundations for Womanhood books.
  • The women who complete the course will be asked to pray about becoming spiritual mothers.
  • Those who are willing will fill out a form agreeing to the guidelines. These names will be submitted to the elders for approval. Those approved will be commissioned in a church service. They will commit to pray throughout the summer for the Lord to direct the committee in assigning them a spiritual daughter.
  • The committee will determine how many spiritual daughters the program can accommodate, offer the program to the women, make assignments, and host a gathering for the spiritual mothers and daughters at the end of the summer.

 Year Two

  • September to May, spiritual mothers will take a spiritual daughter, or a small group, through one or more of the Biblical Foundations for Womanhood books.
  • Every opportunity will be used to keep the Titus 2 concept before the women at large. For example: testimonies at special events, articles in newsletters, public prayer for spiritual mothers.

June to August, the committee will meet with spiritual mothers to evaluate, ask if they will serve again, and get their recommendations of spiritual daughters who completed all of the studies and who may be ready to be spiritual mothers. In some instances, a spiritual mother and daughter may want to continue for another year in order to complete the entire course of study.  The committee will also determine if they need to provide another training time for women who may be interested in becoming spiritual mothers.
