STEPHEN & SANDY SMALLMAN
Steve and Sandy
Smallman live in the Philadelphia suburb of Dresher. They have four
grown children and ten grandchildren.
Steve is serving with CityNet Ministries of
Philadelphia as an instructor in their LAMPhilly pastoral training
ministry. He has written several books and booklets to help those
beginning in the faith, and is currently working on a book introducing
discipleship to seekers and new believers. His materials can be seen on
his website:
www.birthlineministries.com.
Sandy
is a Bible teacher in several local congregations. She is also
ministering to pastors’ wives as part of the shepherding program of the
Philadelphia Presbytery.
SEMINARS:
Friday:
Evangelism and Discipleship: A Continuum.
One reason for superficial
interest in discipleship in our churches is the way we typically do
evangelism. We need to learn how to use the gospel to build a platform
for evangelism that assumes discipleship. Steve Smallman will apply the
work he has done on regeneration and conversion to some practical issues
of spiritual formation in our churches. Steve has written
Spiritual Birthline-Understanding our Experience of the New Birth
(Crossway, 2006) and “What is True Conversion” (for P&R’s Basics of the
Reformed Faith).
Saturday: Making
Disciples—Starting with the next generation.
(Steve and Sandy) We need to be reminded of the priority Jesus gives
to welcoming the children. Steve and Sandy Smallman will focus
particularly on the matter of the conversion of covenant children. What
kind of experiences should we expect? They will use their own children
as “case studies” of this important topic. Steve has written
“Understanding the Faith” a widely used workbook for communicant classes
and a booklet, “How Our Children Come to Faith.” Both are published by
Presbyterian and Reformed.
