Chuck L. Betters
Chuck L. Betters
currently serves as the Minister of Music and Executive Director
at the Glasgow Reformed Presbyterian Church in Bear, De. His
wife Melanie home schools their four children, Markie, age 11,
Katie, age 8, Mollie, age 6, and five month old CJ.
Before his call
into full time music ministry, Chuck received full piano
performance scholarships at both the University of Delaware and
then for his Master’s degree at Temple University. Throughout
these years, Chuck studied with masters such as Michael
Steinberg and Alex Fiorillo, a pupil of Vladimir Horowitz.
Although he has
played the piano at Glasgow since it started in 1987, he was
brought on the staff in 1989, and then was commissioned as the
Minister of Music in 1993. During that time, Chuck has led the
worship ministry through the many cultural and liturgical
changes by striving to mix the old with the new while discipling
congregants in what it means to worship in “spirit and in
truth.”
In the year 2000,
Chuck released a CD of original hymn arrangements, including
“How Great Thou Art” and “It is Well with My Soul,” as well as
classical favorites such as “Moonlight Sonata,” and Pachebel’s
“Canon in D.” This CD also included a movement of the loved
Second Concerto of Rachmaninoff performed live by Chuck and the
Newark Symphony Orchestra. There is also a legendary track, that
features Chuck’s son, Markie, as a five year old, reciting key
verses from the first twelve chapters of Proverbs.
Currently, Chuck
is working on a Doctorate in Worship Studies while leading
Glasgow towards an “ancient-future” theology of worship. Chuck
is also working on a second CD complied of songs Chuck plays
during Communion services.
