Seminar: People
with Special Needs: Ability
or Disability? Understanding Special Needs People in the
Church of Christ
I believe that
understanding our call to interact with special needs people in
the church has broad implications for understanding our faith
and our relationship with God. It is a lesson many people never
learn. This seminar will focus on helping the ‘non-disabled’
develop a healthy attitude, a godly acceptance, and a practical
recognition of the gifts that “disabled” members bring to the
church of Christ. We will confront common, societal
misconceptions about these special people and focus on the faith
lessons God teaches us from scripture about their value and our
call to recognize and enjoy our unity with them in our Savior,
Jesus Christ. The seminar will include video interviews with
our daughter, Janneke, now 28, born with developmental
disabilities, and several members of Grace Presbyterian Church,
Yorba Linda, CA, who have befriended her.
